10 Rrandom Thoughts
Aren't we all mixed up and finding it hard to make sense with what's happening? Here are some random thoughts as I try to rationalize my observations in no particular order:
#1: Somehow it appears to me that the moderates among Liberals and Islamists are calling and fighting for identical objectives. The die-hard extremists in every camp are the ones that are scary. And sorry my liberal friends, there are extremists too in your camp. Our real fight is to eliminate the extremists from both sides and live the moderation we always enjoyed
#2: We are starting to hear voices that have been cowardly muted for the last period. I have to confess they intimidate me but they also energize me and make me more adamant not to be pulled back or down to where they so wish us to be .After a period of silence the anti-revolution crowd is emerging again feeling they have a shot at regaining their power. They base their assumption that people are weary, tired and bored of the revolution. Their aim is to reinstate the status quo under which they flourished; those of us who are fighting for a better Egypt should know that granting them that wish will have us humiliated for another lifetime. We can't afford that again, can we? (not twice in a lifetime!!!) Stand up for your dream
#3: The media bombardment we are subjected to daily is becoming too much. Same faces, same comments & same old techniques. It is boring us all stiff but then again think positive in the fact that we are hearing and listening to what some would have been arrested for thinking of a few months ago.
#4: Only very few of the presidential candidates make partial sense. Some know they stand no chance but are simply enjoying the instant fame; others are looking for a glorious retirement and probably free medical particularly when they see the Sharm Sheikh situation. Among the presidential candidates that make sense one is just too good to be true; the other is too entangled in his subtleties and the third is simply dangerous
#5: Years of being fed one conspiracy theory after the other has us now at the point of doubting ourselves without deliberation. We all need to have some trust towards our surrounding environment and we can only overcome the feelings of mistrust by truly believing in our strength. To have faith that we cannot be tricked into what we don't want. The power of the 25th of January is our source of confidence and why we should believe without doubt that we will achieve
#6: Some of the liberal scholars think they are lecturing to political science graduates. Surprise! Surprise! They are lost in translation to most of us. They need to use their smartness and higher education in finding a communication mode that clicks with the masses. And their foes' preachings are so much closer to the hearts of the people
#7: If you decide to pursue leadership and seek iconic status; you have to know that every breath you take is monitored. Once you acknowledge that think twice before you utter something that hurts the cause you represent. Ordinary people can crack jokes at their convenience; those who wish to sign autographs for those ordinary people lose this privilege in their pursuit of greatness
#8: We can't succumb to feelings of desperation. It does feel sometimes that we are in an endless turmoil. The dust will soon settle. It is like we just opened the lid of a very stinky manhole; the smell is intolerable but the fresh air is carrying it away (a bit slow because it is summer). Soon we will breathe naturally again.Just do not doubt that we were on the right side a few months ago; that has not changed we still are on the right side.
#9: The fact that the revolution does not have an identifiable head is probably a blessing in disguise. 60 years ago our leaders mislead us into the disaster we lived in and suffered from for decades. The leader we seek will have to be well chosen and with the integrity to manoeuvre us into what is in Egypt's interest. And this time around we have the right to choose; no one will be enforced on us
#10: The elections are becoming a necessity in order to install a government that has the power of being elected and therefore would be both capable and accountable to pursue the people's requirements and requests. After all the debates we have had in recent months I am quite confident that we will have a good constitution in place eventually. I am of the opinion that all factions (except those that don't count) are in alignment regarding the skeleton of the coming constitution
On the 25th of January and till the 31st of January I (among others) was skeptical & calculating whether to stand up and voice my disdain or surrender to fears for my self interest; but then I arrived at Tahrir. The revelation I had there and those I met & spoke to have me filled with certainty that a better Egypt will rise. It may be slow, it may be frustrating and it definitely will be painful but it will happen. Our destiny doesn't include the easy rosy way of achieving our dreams. We will however always reach the destiny we forge with our arms.Whatever we end up doing we cannot be pathetic and go down in history as the generation(s) robbed of its livelihood by a dire, mean and unjust regime only to be robbed again of its revolution against that regime.
Egypt will prevail
